Head Swim Team Coach

(Note: Must be within the first 40% of the Salary Range.

 

Working Hours: The Head Swim Team Coach is a Part-time position working a minimum of 32 hours per week. The scheduled work hours vary with the meet and practice schedule of the swim team, and hours will be agreed upon with the Family Aquatics Center Manager.

 

 

Summary: The Swim Team Coach acts as head coach for Age Group Swim Team. The Swim Team Coach is required to be coaching on the pool deck at all assigned practice times, scheduled swim meets, and instructing stroke clinics.  The coach is responsible for the planning, organization, implementation and coordination of all swim team activities, communicate effectively and diplomatically with swim team parents, hire, train, supervise and evaluate part-time coaching staff, implement financial budget, and schedule pool use for practice and meets.  

 

 

Qualifications: Prior swim team head coaching experience and competitive swim experience required. A bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation, or related field is desirable.  Knowledge of USS Swimming and Diving Rules and local swim conference rules and regulations. Certification in Safety Training for Swim Coaches or equivalent is required. CPR and First Aid training required.  Current and valid Illinois drivers license.

 

 

Immediate Supervisor:  The Swim Team Coach reports to the Family Aquatics Center Manager

 

 

Essential Functions:

1  Attend all scheduled swim meets. Supervise all swimmers. Coordinate volunteers. Create          and post all meet line-ups and information.

2.  Coordinate practice group scheduling and assign athletes to appropriate training groups.

3. Coordinate and attend all swim practices.

4. Attend all swim conference meetings.

5. Attend all registration and parent meetings.

6. Coordinate and attend all swim team special events and fund-raisers.

7. Conduct stroke clinics.

8. Directly supervise all assistant coaches

9. Actively coach swimmers in competitive stroke training to improve stroke technique and

    improve swimmers competitive swim times.

10. Recruits new swimmers to program.   

11. Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in all communications.

12. Promote a quality loss control/safety program for the Park District.

13. Perform any duties as assigned by the Aquatic Center Manager

14. Work with Aquatic Center Manager with swim team brochure development and swim                                                           team budget.

15. Offer swim team athletes swim incentives at practice and reward performance at meets.

16. Have basic computer skills in microsoft word, excel, and have knowledge of swim team Meet Manager and Team Manager software.

17.  Meet all safety and ioperational requirements in the facility.

18.  Develop strong teambuilding qualities through demonstrated leadership.

 

 

 

 

Marginal Functions:

1. Attend Park District meetings.

2. Maintain good communication with parents of swimmers through discussions, newsletters, emails, flyers etc.

3. Maintain appropriate records of all swim team meets and results.

4. Maintain appropriate records of all swim team members times and records

5. Make sure all swim team equipment is in good working order.

    timely administrative responsibility and flexibility.

4. Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment.

5. Must be able to deal with people under stressful and demanding situations.

6. Must be able work under stressful situations when first aid or CPR is required.

 

 

 

 

Physiological Considerations:

1. Perform tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing,

    reaching, and sitting

2. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations.

3. Perform lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.

 

 

Environmental Considerations: May be exposed to elements when driving to meetings or assisting staff with outdoor functions. Most activities are performed indoors, these conditions include lighting, high humidity, and high temperature. Pool area floors may be slippery.

 

 

Cognitive Considerations: The Head Swim Team Coach must exhibit good problem solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the park district.
