Question:
During the recertification calendar year, is there a specific time period I must take the test?
Answer:
If an official took the requisite test(s) and scored at least 80% anytime during the recertification calendar year, the official need not re-take the test in that year. This applies to an official who became certified and took the USA-Swimming officials test anytime during the recertification calendar year.
Example 1:
Chris took the Judge clinic in December prior to the recertification calendar year. Chris passed the USA-Swimming judge test with a score of 95% on January 5 of the recertification calendar year. Chris submitted the evaluation cards to the ISI office on February 1 and received the official’s credentials of Judge on February 15. Since Chris took the test in the recertification calendar year, Chris does not need to re-take the exam.
Example 2:
Kim took the Judge clinic in September prior to the recertification calendar year. Kim passed the USA-Swimming judge test with a score of 95% on November 5 prior to the recertification calendar year. Three weeks later Kim submitted the evaluation cards to the ISI office and received the official’s credentials of Judge on December 15. Since Kim took the test in November prior to the recertification calendar year, Kim must take the exam in the recertification calendar year or attend a recertification clinic.
Example 3:
John took the USA-Swimming tests for referee in April of the recertification calendar year with a score of 99%. John does not need to re-take the tests or attend a recertification clinic (assuming he has no need for the 3 CEU credits provided for attending a recertification clinic).
Example 4:
Sue attended a clinic for judge in October of the recertification calendar year. If Sue takes the test during the recertification calendar year, once she has taken the test and scored 80% or higher, Sue has met the testing requirements for the recertification calendar year.
